Reese Witherspoon was at first standing by her friend Ellen DeGeneres as the talk-show host has battled detractors stemming from her recent photo with former President George W. Bush, but now the actress is shrinking from that support.
Recently, DeGeneres was seen with Bush while the two were at a Dallas Cowboys football game, and the footage sparked outrage online.
One reason for the discussion is fairly obvious -- anti-LGBTQ policies were the norm while Bush was in office; nevermind the fact that the nation was knee-deep in the Iraq War as a result of 9/11.
When the controversy first began, Witherspoon tweeted, "Thank you for this important reminder, Ellen!" and then included some of DeGeneres quotes defending herself. DeGeneres was basically saying that everyone should be kind to everyone else regardless of their beliefs.
But now, Witherspoon seems to be walking back her comments, and deleted that tweet. Yikes.
Kristen Bell has also been thrown into the ugly mix for her early support of Ellen:
"Imagine being so god damn out of touch that you're actually praising Ellen for claiming George W. Bush's atrocities are no different than a fur-wearing friend. Grotesque and shameful dismissal of the victims of the War on Terror @ReeseW, @KristenBell, you just lost a longtime fan," wrote @AbbyMartin.
