Janelle Monáe, Cassie, Jonathan Van Ness, Tess Holliday and a ton of other celebrities are joining forces demanding justice for Elijah McClain.

A video was posted where the celebrities start by calling out the Colorado officials who have not taken any action in the Elijah McClain case.

They start, “Governor Jared Polis, Mayor Mike Coffman, City Attorney Daniel Brotzman, Attorney General Phil Weiser, you have been ignoring the people’s call, so we are going to speak to you a little louder.”

The other celebrities involved include Kate Bosworth, Meagan Good, Ben Platt, Busy Phillips, Beanie Feldstein, and Brandon Marshall. They are demanding the officials take action and provide Elijah McClain justice by filing criminal charges.

On August 24, 2019, 23-year-old Elijah Jovan McClain walked to the store to buy iced tea. He was wearing a ski mask because he was anemic and would sometimes get cold.

On his way home, Elijah was stopped by Aurora Police Department officers who claim to have received a 911 call reporting a “suspicious person” wearing a ski mask. Footage released from the scene shows Elijah pleading with officers to let him go. Three officers, Nathan Woodyard, Jason Rosenblatt and Randy Roedema claim Elijah resisted arrest and proceeded to tackle him to the ground. Elijah was 5’6 and weighed only 140 pounds.

On the video from the scene, Elijah can be heard telling the officers, “I can’t breathe. I have my ID right here. My name is Elijah McClain. That’s my house. I was just going home. I’m an introvert. I’m just different. That’s all. I’m so sorry. I have no gun. I don’t do that stuff. I don’t do any fighting. Why are you attacking me? I don’t even kill flies! I don’t eat meat! But I don’t judge people, I don’t judge people who do eat meat. Forgive me. All I was trying to do was become better. I will do it. I will do anything. Sacrifice my identity, I’ll do it. You all are phenomenal. You are beautiful and I love you. Try to forgive me. I’m a mood Gemini. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. Ow, that really hurt. You are all very strong. Teamwork makes the dream work. Oh, I’m sorry I wasn’t trying to do that. I just can’t breathe correctly.”

The autopsy results were inconclusive. A petition has been launched calling for District Attorney, Dave Young, to resign after he continues to defend his decision not to bring charges against the police officers. The investigation was recently reopened after millions signed a petition and thousands protested in Colorado.
