Grammy Producers Thought Drake's Speech Was Finished After Pausing, Offered More Time

By TheBlast Staff

Drake seemingly had more to say during his acceptance speech at the Grammys but after taking a pause, producers decided it was time for a commercial break.

Sources close to the Grammys tell The Blast that Drake took a natural pause in his speech, which led producers to believe he was finished Sunday night at the 61st Grammy Awards.

Fans and social media went off when Drizzy was suddenly silenced as the show cut to a promo, but our sources say producers quickly realized the snafu and jumped into action.

We're told producers spoke with Drake immediately after accepting the Best Rap Song award for "God's Plan," and the star was given an opportunity to complete his speech.

Sources directly familiar with the situation tell us, "Drake stated that he was actually finished with his speech and happy."

While his microphone was working, however, Drake delivered an inspirational message to young people and future musicians coming from diverse backgrounds.

"This is a business where sometimes it's up to a bunch of people who might not understand what a mixed-race kid from Canada has to say or a fly Spanish girl from New York or anybody else ... But my point is you've already won if you have people singing your songs word for word, if you're a hero in your hometown," the hip-hop star explained.
