The 24-year-old actress shared a teary-eyed selfie where she had the tattoo she got in honor of her late friend proudly on display. Dove and Boyce developed a close friendship after starring in the hit Disney movie franchise, “The Descendants.” She had a difficult time dealing with the star’s untimely passing in July of 2019. The former Disney star announced that she is teaming up with The Cameron Boyce Foundation to help raise money to fight gun violence and epilepsy.
Dove wore a shirt that featured her tattoo on the front. She penned an emotional statement about how the proceeds of her clothing line go directly to charities that best serve Boyce’s interests.
“in honor of Cam’s 21st birthday, i have teamed up with The Cameron Boyce Foundation to create the limited edition Dove x WieldingPeace collection. the profits generated from this campaign will support TCBF in their efforts to end gun violence and cure epilepsy with a portion going to The Actors Fund to aid in COVID-19 relief,” she explained.
“Cameron was the most beautiful soul most of us will ever know. please, if you are able, buy, gift, donate, and spread the word as we continue the work of what would have been Cameron’s life legacy. he deserved so much more time, so much more life. i implore you to help us try to give him that. link to purchase is in my bio. ?”
Dove actually got her tribute tattoo on camera during a ‘day in the life’ video by Vogue. Her tattoo is of a revolver with a single rose sticking out of the barrel and she explained that she is very pro-gun regulation. She said the tattoo is a commonly recognized anti-gun violence symbol that alines with Boyce’s sentiment.
“My friend Cameron passed away a few months ago,” Dove told the camera, “and he was starting this organization called Wield In Peace.”
She continued, “He wanted to get influential people holding things that sort of looked like they were in the shape of a gun but then it would be something artistic or peaceful. He did it with a bouquet of flowers actually.”
The star broke down in tears while reading a letter she wrote to Cameron after he passed. She admitted to speaking extensively with her therapist after the tragic loss. By writing down her thoughts and sharing them with the world, she was able to find what closure she could but the journey is still not easy.
“I’ve been unsuccessful thinking about trying to summarize something where there are no adequate words in the English language,” Dove explained at the time. “I’ve been mostly quiet or expressive through crying. I’ve never stuttered and unable to speak before these last few days. My system is still in shock, my brain is still foggy and full of holes.”
Now that she has her new project with his charity, she feels like she is honoring the late star’s legacy.
Cameron passed away from a seizure while he was at home in Los Angeles in July of 2019. Boyce’s family released a statement at the time that read, “It is with a profoundly heavy heart that we report that this morning we lost Cameron.”
It continued, “He passed away in his sleep due to a seizure which was a result of an ongoing medical condition for which he was being treated.” It was later revealed that Boyce suffered from epileptic seizures in secret. He was 20-years-old when he died but his memory will live on.
