DMX will be seeing time behind bars after a judge just ordered him to serve a year in prison and pay back over $2 million in restitution.

X appeared in New York federal court Wednesday when he was handed down the sentence, which also includes 3 years of supervised release. He's been ordered to pay back $2,292,200.

He had previously pled guilty to one count of tax evasion. Prosecutors were pushing for the max sentence of 5 years, so X actually came out ahead.

The rap legend's attorney followed through on his promise to air DMX music during sentencing, which he did by playing "Slippin" for the judge. Maybe that helped with the lighter sentence.

As The Blast first reported, DMX's legal team is suggesting that all of "Mr. Simmons' future contracts contain a provision that all fees are deposited to an escrow with Government or trustee supervision."

They had believed setting up a payment plan to "correct the losses to the government" will be more beneficial than serving time behind bars.

X has maintained that poor financial management resulted in his current situation.
