DJ Khaled and Drake have collaborated on two new songs together. Both were just released at midnight, and both are excellent contenders for song of the summer.

They're called "Popstar" and "Greece," and both will appear on Khaled's upcoming album Khaled Khaled. Unfortunately we don't have a release date for that yet.

"Popstar" makes mention of Selena, Scooter Braun and Rihanna, while "Greece" is an upbeat joint all about Gucci and jetting off to the Mediterranean. The latter song features a lighthearted violin loop that accents Drake's steady delivery.

About "Greece," Rolling Stone's Charles Holmes wrote: "In essence, it’s multi-millionaire MadLibs, but while it lacks innovation, there’s at least a sense of honed pop craftsmanship on display."

On "Popstar," which features a little more bite than "Greece," Drake chants:

"Bitches callin' my phone like I'm locked up, nonstop From the plane to the fuckin' helicopter, yeah Cops pullin' up like I'm givin' drugs out, nah, nah I'm a popstar, not a doctor"

Also this year, Drake collaborated with Lil Yachty on "Oprah's Bank Account," and joined Future on the hit "Life Is Good." The video for that song features cameos from 21 Savage, Mike Will Made-It, Big Bank Black and Lil Yachty.

The video, which dropped in January, was directed by Director X and shows Future and Drake portraying a variety of jobs, like chefs, garbage men, fast-food employees and mechanics.

DJ Khaled's been busy as well. His last album dropped in 2019 and was called _Father of Asahd, and in February he performed "I'm the One" at the halftime show at the NBA All-Star Game to support Chance the Rapper.

Khaled picked up a Grammy in January for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for a 2019 collaboration with John Legend and the late Nipsey Hussle on the song “Higher.”

The duo of new songs come after Drake's Dark Lane Demo Tapes which was released in May. After nine albums that landed at number 1, Dark Lane Demo Tapes was the first album that didn't debut at the number 1 spot on Billboard -- that honor went to Kenny Chesney's album Here and Now.

It's hard to believe we're smack dab in the middle of summer and have yet to receive the perfect song of the summer, although this year is anything but normal.

Holmes continued:

"Maybe, if we’re lucky, we’ve collectively evolved past the need for such a meaningless distinction. But if there are any late contenders for the crown, one could do worse than Drake and DJ Khaled."
