Denzel Washington had a delicious day of filming, because the actor set up shop in one of Boston's best steak houses.

Washington was shooting the "Equalizer 2" this past week at Boston Chops, one of the South End's premier eateries.

We're told the restaurant -- which will be called DC Chops -- was shut down for filming, but the cooking staff stayed so their food could be used in the actual scenes of the movie.

They whipped up steaks, creamed spinach, potatoes, and popovers. They put together a seafood tower too ... which we all know is a necessity.

We're told head chef, Chris Coombs, hit it off with the Oscar winning actor, and cooked up an 18 oz ribeye, signature fried chicken, and cheesecake for Denzel to snack on between takes.

A long day of work never tasted so good.
