Denise Nickerson died on Wednesday at age 62 after battling several health issues.
Denise Nickerson, who is best known for playing Violet Beauregarde in the 1971 classic Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, passed away on Wednesday at age 62. The family confirmed the news on Facebook.
Last year, Nickerson suffered a severe stroke and since then her son and his wife had been her caretakers. In a post on GoFundMe, they detailed the struggles they’ve gone through. On Wednesday morning, they made the difficult decision to take her off life support.
The couple is now seeking money to help pay for Nickerson’s death expenses. They’ve exhausted all their funds taking care of Nickerson the past year.
Aside from her role in Willy Wonka, Nickerson was known for her roles in the soap “Dark Shadows,” and the shows “The Electric Company” on PBS and CBS’ “Search for Tomorrow”
In 1978, she left the acting business and spent the rest of her career as a nurse.
