UPDATE

1:40 PM PT -- Stefanie Sherk's death has officially been ruled a suicide. Her causes of death are listed as anoxic encephalopathy, asphyxia and drowning.

Demián Bichir discovered his wife had intentionally weighed her body down to keep herself at the bottom of the family's swimming pool and her tragic death is currently being investigated as a possible suicide.

According to law enforcement sources, 43-year-old Canadian model Stefanie Sherk was found by her famous husband on April 12 at the bottom of the pool at the family's Sherman Oaks home after he had returned from grocery shopping.

We're told Bichir and another family member immediately called paramedics, and when emergency responders arrived, they were able to successfully resuscitate Sherk and transported her to a local hospital.

She spent the next eight days in the hospital before passing away on April 20. It has been reported that Sherk was 37 years old at the time of her death, but official records note she was 43.

We're told the death is being investigated as a possible suicide, and law enforcement sources tell us Sherk had "weighed" herself down to keep her body at the bottom of the pool.

We're told authorities have been told Sherk also suffered from ongoing bouts of depression.

The star of the upcoming "Grand Hotel" TV show announced the passing on Wednesday, telling fans, "It is with inconceivable pain that I announce that on April 20, 2019, our dearest Stefanie Sherk, my beloved and loving wife, passed away peacefully."

Sherk is scheduled to undergo an autopsy by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, which should eventually provide more insight to any possible substances the model may have had in her system at the time of death.

Sherk recently wrapped a movie scheduled to premiere in 2020 called, "Grudge," alongside Jacki Weaver. She had previously appeared in episodes of "CSI: Cyber" and "Valentine's Day." She had been in a relationship with Bechir since 2011.

Bechir was previously nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in the 2011 drama, "A Better Life."
