Lovato Debuted 'Anyone'

At the 62nd annual Grammy Awards, singer Demi Lovato brought down the house with a stunning performance, and Lovato's friend, Selena Gomez, was right there cheering her on.

Under her Instagram story, Gomez shared her reaction to watching Lovato premiere her new song "Anyone" at the Grammys.

"I wish there were words to describe how beautiful, inspirational and DESERVED this moment was. Demi I'm so happy for you. Thank you for your courage and bravery."

Gomez' gesture did not go unnoticed among viewers and fans.

"Selena Gomez might literally be the nicest celebrity out here. the fact that demi lovato literally trashed and shaded her multiple times and then became friends with the people who hurt selena and now when demi made her comeback Selena supported her. I don’t know a better woman.." said @dodgedthebulIet, a fan account.

'No One Hears Me Anymore'

Lovato's powerful performance at the Grammys was also her first since going through a drug overdose in 2018.

But Lovato has been struggling for longer than that, opening up to the public about her eating disorder issues. She had also spent time in rehab in past years.

Reaching Out Through Music

In fact, Lovato has spoken up about the stigma of drug addiction and the inclination for some to fail to see it as an actual disease.

“I wish more people would lose the stigma and treat addiction as the deadly and serious DISEASE that it is. Drugs are not something to glamorize in pop music or film to portray as harmless recreational fun.

It’s not cute, ‘cool’ or [admirable]. It’s very rare when people can actually predict their addiction and even then, you never know when too much is going to take their life or take a bad batch of whatever it is their using.”

Longtime Friendship

Gomez and Lovato have been friends for a long time, though the relationship has been rocky.

According to Bustle, the two have been friends since they were kids, around the time they were both on "Barney & Friends."

Bustle's timeline of their relationship goes back to 2008, and the vlog they started together. And in 2010, it sounds as if there was a wedge growing between the two, when Gomez was dating Taylor Lautner and apparently spending more time with Swift than with Lovato.

At the same time, Lovato has given words of support to Gomez when she was going through her own rehab, writing the message: "Weakness is living in denial. Only the strongest people ask for help."

In 2014, Gomez was asked about the fact that Lovato had unfollowed her on Twitter. Usually when someone is "unfollowed," it means they're done with each other.

Gomez didn't go that far then, only saying "I think it's just one of those things where people change and people grow apart."

Gomez has acknowledged that time in Lovato's life was tough for her as well. Will this be another turning point for them?
