Demi Lovato is reflecting on her life after her near-fatal overdose in her first major interview since her relapse. The "Sorry Not Sorry" singer spoke at the Teen Vogue Summit in Los Angeles on Saturday and said she's stronger than ever. “What I see in the mirror [is] someone that’s overcome a lot. I’ve been through a lot and I genuinely see a fighter,” the 27-year-old star told Teen Vogue's editor in chief Lindsay Peoples Wagner. "I don’t see a championship winner, but I see a fighter and someone who is going to continue to fight no matter what is thrown in their way," Demi Lovato added.

She even said despite what she has been through she "wouldn’t change the direction of my life for anything." Lovato took it one step further later in the interview when she stated, “I would never regret anything. I love the person that I am today.” The singer's growth partly comes from the confidence she has within herself. Speaking openly about her body, Demi Lovato said she's accepted herself, even if she doesn't always like what she sees. “We hear the term ‘body positivity’ all the time. To be honest, I don’t always feel positive about my body. Sometimes I do not like what I see,” she admitted. “I don’t sit there and dwell on it. I also don’t lie to myself.”

Demi Lovato also stated that in order to get her mind right, she reminds herself that she's healthy. “I don’t have to lie to myself and tell myself I have an amazing body. All I have to say is, ‘I’m healthy.’ In that statement, I express gratitude,” the singer explained. “I am grateful for my strength and things I can do with my body. I am saying I’m healthy and I accept the way my body is today without changing anything.”

While many people amp up their gym schedules in fall to fit into their tiny Halloween costumes, Demi Lovato did the opposite. In her interview, she revealed she took the entire month of October off from the gym as part of "embracing" her body. “For so many years I dealt with an eating disorder. What I wasn’t ever open with myself about was, whenever I was in the gym I was doing it to an unhealthy extreme,” she stated. “I think that’s what led me down a darker path — I was still engaging in these behaviors.”

New Music On The Way!

Demi Lovato's been teasing new music for months and while she ensures fans it's coming, she's not breaking her back to rush it out. “It’s important to remember that I am so cautious this time around of jumping back into things. I’ve really decided to take my time with things, so when the time is right to release new music, I will put it out there,” she explained. Demi Lovato added that she hopes eventually the focus and interest will be off her life and back on her vocal talent. “Genuinely I just want people to remember that I’m a singer,” she stated. “I think that a lot of the things I’ve been through kind of outshined my successes in the music industry or acting now. I just want people to remember that that’s what I want to give to the world so please focus on that and not the other things.”

As The Blast reported, Demi Lovato suffered from a near-fatal overdose in summer 2018. The "Confident" singer was rushed by ambulance from her Hollywood Hills home to a nearby hospital where she remained for nearly two weeks. After being released from the hospital, Demi Lovato immediately checked herself into a rehab facility and stayed there for three months. The singer celebrated her one-year sobriety with friends this past July. Since her experience, Demi Lovato's been focused on keeping healthy and making positive moves with her career. She's signed with Justin Bieber's manager and she's starring alongside Will Ferrell in his upcoming Netflix movie, as well as appearing on the final season of the "Will & Grace" reboot.
