David Ortiz Throws Out First Pitch at Fenway Park, Fans Go Wild

By Gary Trock

David Ortiz took the mound in Fenway Park in his first public appearance since the June shooting that almost took his life.

Big Papi was sporting a Boston Red Sox jersey, and a huge smile, when he went to throw out the first pitch Monday night as the Red Sox prepared to take on the New York Yankees.

Ortiz was met with a standing ovation from the crowd when he walked out onto the field, and when he lobbed a pretty nice looking throw to home plate, everyone went nuts.

The former MLB slugger also addressed the crowd and thanked everyone for their love and prayers while he recovered from the harrowing shooting in the Dominican Republic.

"I want to thank God for giving me a second opportunity to be here with all of you,” Ortiz said, adding, “Thank you very much Red Sox family."

He also said, "I want to thank all of you for all the prayers. All of them came home. I want to thank my former teammates for being there for me, also. I want to thank the Yankees, a lot of my boys over there came to check up on Big Papi, I appreciate it. CC, Encarnación, all y’all man."

Ortiz shared a recent visit he received from Edwin Encarnación with a photo of the two stars on Instagram.

"My boy came to check up on his boy !!!" Ortiz wrote while sitting next to the Yankees' first baseman.

Ortiz was severely wounded in a shooting back in June while sitting at a bar in Santo Domingo with a friend.

It was later determined that Ortiz was not the intended target, and since the incident, multiple arrests have been made, including the alleged trigger man.
