Dave Chappelle Does Not Want to Talk About R. Kelly

By Chad Weiser

Dave Chappelle has successfully navigated being a comedian through an ever changing PC climate, and he's got some sage advice about how he survives ... but don't ask him about R. Kelly.

45-year-old Chappelle was out in NYC when he was asked about doing comedy in such sensitive times, but like a true professional, the comic says, "I just keep my head down and do whatever it is i'm gonna do."

Chappelle is currently doing a 10-show limited engagement at the Lunt-Fontanne Theater on Broadway.

He has made it a practice over the last few years to remove any chance of video recording by having the crowd put their phones in phone blocking cases.

"Oh ya, that's the only way I'll do it now," he explained.

As for music, Chappelle says that he has an exclusive track from Mos Def & Talib Kwel called "Black Stars Recording Again" which he says is "fire."

One of hip-hop’s most celebrated collaborations may be in for a 2018 revival. During a surprise appearance at a Madlib DJ set in Denver on Saturday evening, Yasiin Bey (fka Mos Def) revealed that he and Talib Kweli have plans for a new Black Star album this year.

Madlib previously produced Black Star’s 2011 single “Fix Up”, which was intended to feature on an Aretha Franklin-inspired mixtape that never materialized. In 2016, Bey announced his retirement from music after getting into a legal fight in South Africa, and staged a series of high-profile farewell concerts later that year.

This collab has been in the works for some time now and it seems Chappelle already has a copy of a possible next big hit.
