Dave Chappelle Set to Host Free Block Party in Dayton in Honor of Shooting Victims

By Chad Weiser

Dave Chappelle is stepping up to support the victims of the recent mass shooting in Dayton, Ohio, by hosting one of his famous block parties in the city, less than three weeks after a mass shooting in the city left nine people dead and 17 others hurt.

The free party is scheduled to be held on Saturday in the Oregon District, the popular nightlife area where the August 4 mass shooting went down.

“This event will honor the lives lost and to reclaim the community’s favorite places to shop, dine and enjoy time with family and friends,” the Facebook event page said.

Titled the “Gem City Shine,” the event is strictly for Dayton residents, according to a registration page.

“You will not be able to redeem tickets, even if you receive a code, unless you are a legal resident of Dayton, OH area,” the page reads.

Partygoers will receive a commemorative T-shirt in exchange for a $20 minimum donation that will go toward the tragedy fund at the Dayton Foundation.

It's unclear who will be on the lineup as it has not been announced yet but with Chris's star power, it is sure to bring in some big names.

The comedian, who lives in nearby Yellow Springs, has hosted the likes of Chris Rock and Bradley Cooper for his "Juke Joint" concerts in the area.

Chappelle also revealed recently that his fifth Netflix comedy special, "Sticks & Stones", will be released on August 26.
