'Daisy Jones & The Six' Finds Its Showrunner

By C Tresser

Will Graham has boarded the Amazon series as Showrunner

Will Graham is staying put at Amazon Studios. The writer-director and his banner Field Trip Productions have signed a new first-look deal. His first move under this new deal? Joining the upcoming Amazon series Daisy Jones & The Six as showrunner and executive producer.

It's been a busy week for Graham, having recently signed on to co-write and executive produce the upcoming Amazon series based on A League of Their Own.

Daisy Jones & The Six is based on a book by the same name. The story follows the whirlwind rise and subsequent fall of a renowned 1970s rock band. The band's lead singer, Daisy Jones, is the reason the band catapults to fame and also the reason behind their ultimate split.

The book, written by Taylor Jenkins Reid, was released on March 5 of this year. It was also the March pick for Reese's Book Club.

Not so coincidentally, the 12-episode musical/drama series is also being produced by Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter under their production banner Hello Sunshine. Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber created the series and will also executive produce. Brad Mendelsohn of Circle of Confusion will executive produce and Reid (the author) will produce.

Albert Cheng, COO and Co-Head of Television at Amazon Studios said, "Will is a tremendous talent, with the ability to create fully realized characters and worlds across a broad range of genres. Will has been with us since our early days as a studio and we're thrilled to have him as part of the Amazon Studios family. We're all so excited to see Daisy Jones & The Six come to life for our Prime Video customers."

Will Graham has been with Amazon for years. He started as one of Onion News Network's founders, serving as showrunner for both The Onion News Network and Onion Sports Dome. He co-created one of the studio's first pilots. He went on to produce Salem Rogers (also Amazon Studios), wrote on one of its first series (Alpha House) and later joined Mozart in the Jungle as an executive producer, writer and director.

In Graham's own words, "Amazon has been my home since the beginning, and at this point we are family. …the whole team has nurtured and supported Field Trip since we launched, and we can't wait to take these next steps with them. We couldn't be more excited."
