As the coronavirus continues to spread at an alarming rate, more and more confirmed cases are hitting the news. The latest celebrity to contract the disease is country music legend John Prine, the singer and musician behind classic songs like "Clay Pigeons" and "Angel From Montgomery."

Prine's family posted on his social media, updating his fans about his condition:

"After a sudden onset of Covid-19 symptoms, John was hospitalized on Thursday (3/26). He was intubated Saturday evening, and continues to receive care, but his situation is critical.

This is hard news for us to share. But so many of you have loved and supported John over the years, we wanted to let you know, and give you the change to send on more of that love and support now. And know that we love you, and John loves you."

Prine was traveling with his wife, Fiona, in Europe earlier this month, and Fiona revealed on March 17 that she had tested positive for COVID-19. She said at the time:

"I'm asking you to please stay at home. That's all. The government can help, and I think they are really starting to really figure out that this is serious, this is life and death for God knows how many Americans. They can help, but, honestly, it is truly in our hands.

Following her diagnosis, Fiona self-quarantined.

"But what's important now is that I'm not going to spread this. I'm not going to be responsible for passing this onto someone, least of all my husband."

Patton Oswalt: "g-ddamit if we lose john prine i swear to f-cking GOD"

Mark Hamill: "Get well soon John!"

Jason Isbell: "Sending our love to each of y’all. Hoping for the best."

"Oh no. John Prine has already survived so much. Keep him in your thoughts. We need all the national treasures we can get right now."

"I don't pray, but I'm doing whatever it is I do for John Prine."

"I can't really imagine Nashville without John Prine. Can't imagine songwriting without him. We are ALL pouring good energy toward you now, John and Fiona and all. Stricken by what this pandemic is doing to us."
