Derrick Dillard’s relationship with his in-laws seems like it may be even more strained the previously known. He recently posted a gallery of Christmas photos of his family on Instagram with the caption, “‘Have yourself a merry little Christmas…’ from the Dillards.”
The post seemed innocent enough, but Us Weekly noticed that Dillard revealed some family details in the comments while responding to fans.
“We’re not allowed in the house when [Jim Bob] isn’t there,” Dillard wrote in one reply to a commenter. “Jill even has to ask [Jim Bob’s] permission to go over to the house to help her sister when she was in labor because her sister wanted help, but Jill couldn’t provide assistance until we got it cleared from JB.”
“We were made to believe we didn’t have a choice and that we’d be sued if we refused,” Dillard detailed in another comment. “However, once we became more enlightened, we realized that we could easily defend ourselves in against a lawsuit from the family/TLC.”
In other comments, he said there are “no hard feelings,” but “there are just more things we are aware of now,” he wrote, adding, “The truth will always set you free.”
Dillard hasn’t appeared on “Counting On” since 2017 after he made homophobic comments about fellow TLC star Jazz Jennings.
In November, Dillard spoke out about his issues with the network.
“[TLC] has issues. They begged us not to [quit] filming, but then didn’t want to talk directly with us about why. If money is all they care about, then it’s going to catch up with them — you must care about [people]. All I’ve got to say is, they better lawyer-up [because] a storm is inevitable,” he said.
Fans had opinions about all of these revelations in the Instagram post comments, too.
“Have mucho respect for you, telling us the truth and not really caring what big ol JB says. Hope your planning on using that law degree to do some good!” one said.
“That is just wrong that you have to ask for permission to see them honestly. But I do hope you and Jill and the boys are well,” another wrote.
