Even a seemingly harmless water park ride can turn dangerous.
What should have been a fun day at the water park ended up being a nightmare for visitors to China’s Shuiyun Water Park on July 29th when the wave machine malfunctioned during the hours of operation.
The footage circulated on Twitter, showing a terrifying 10 foot wave plowing through swimmers and sending panicked people flying. A spokesperson from the park released a statement after the incident.
“It was caused by a mechanical fault. Only around 10 people were injured. The wave pool was closed for a day for repairs. It’s already been fixed and will be open tomorrow.”
However, the official injury count is actually 44, with three people still being treated for broken bones and other more seriously injuries. It wasn’t disclosed whether or not the park visitors who had to endure this malfunction were refunded for their tickets.
So, the next time you think about going to the water park… maybe stay home instead?
