The DA noted that the Ventura County Sheriff's Office investigated the child abuse allegations, and after reviewing the evidence, found "insufficient proof" that a criminal offense was committed by Jamie.

As The Blast first reported, an investigation was launched at the beginning of the month after Kevin Federline filed a police report alleging Jamie had attacked his 13-year-old son.

Sources close to the investigation told us Jamie and the boy had gotten into a disagreement, and after he ran from his grandfather in the heat of the argument, Jamie allegedly broke down a bedroom door and "violently" shook the child.

At the time, Britney immediately scooped up her two children and brought them to her ex-husband, Federline.

We're told the investigation by officials included interviews with all parties involved, and that it could have also had serious implications on Britney's ongoing conservatorship.

Up until a few days ago, Jamie had been the conservator in charge of his daughter's daily life, as well as her professional career.

In the wake of a major meltdown with his grandson, it was going to be hard for Jamie to conduct daily business ... however during the investigation he stepped down as conservator, citing complications in his health as a need to take some time off.

In the meantime, Jodi Montgomery has been tapped as the temporary conservator, as she has already been actively involved in Britney's life over the past year.

Now that Jamie is off the hook for criminal charges, he should be able to resume normal life with his family, although there is still a protective order in place, which was brought to the court by Federline and his legal team.

The announcement by the DA is good timing for Britney, as well, as she just returned home from a trip to Hawaii that turned out to be a very well-timed vacation.
