Queen guitarist Brian May says he "was very near death" after suffering a heart attack.

May wrote about the experience in an Instagram video over the weekend he titled "My Medical Adventures":

"In the middle of the whole saga of the painful backside, I had a small heart attack. I say small – it’s not something that did me any harm. It was about 40 minutes of pain in the chest and tightness and that feeling in the arms and sweating."

We don't have details on when this happened, only that it happened "recently," according to CNN.

The "saga" May referred to was detailed in a string of health incidents May suffered recently that began with a ripped buttocks earlier this month in what he called an "overenthusiastic gardening incident."

There's something you don't read every day.

"I managed to rip my Gluteus Maximus to shreds in a moment of over-enthusiastic gardening....I had an MRI and yes I did have a rip in gluteus maximus," he said on Instagram.

But a week after the buttocks rip, May was still in a lot of "agony," so he sought more medical attention. May had an MRI on his spine, where doctors found a "compressed sciatic nerve," or "squished" discs, according to May.

He said the nerve was "quite severely compressed and that's why I had this feeling that someone was putting a screwdriver in my back."

The injury was likely due to his time recording and touring with Queen.

"I think 50 years of running around with a guitar strap over my left shoulder holding a heavy guitar might have something to do with it ! But it probably WAS all worth it!"

Brian May does not have coronavirus.

Fans may have been relieved to hear from May, as he contributes often to his Instagram page. May wrote that his absence from social media was not due to coronavirus.

"Reality check ! For me. No - the Virus didn’t get me yet - thank God. Hope you’re all keeping extra-safe out there. A decision to relax controls doesn’t suddenly make the danger go away."

But the damage to his buttocks appears to be considerable:

"Turns out I did a thorough job -- this is a couple of days ago -- and I won't be able to walk for a while ... or sleep, without a lot of assistance, because the pain is relentless."
