Brad Pitt has had a huge year creatively, putting in two buzzy roles with Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood and Ad Astra. He recently earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood, cementing himself as a major player in the awards season discussion.
Pitt, who split from Angelina Jolie three years ago, addressed all of the speculation about his dating life in a new profile in the New York Times. He explained his disinterest in whether or not he’s seeing someone new.
“I don’t go out of my way to avoid it; I just don’t seek it out. I don’t know how many women they’ve said I’ve been dating the last two or three years, and none of it’s true — I just flashed on something, but maybe it doesn’t mean anything.”
Ultimately, Pitt has gotten a lot of perspective over the course of his long career, so he recognizes that the gossip that comes with it is just smoke in the wind. Or rather, newspaper under cat poop.
“When I first started my career, I was in USA Today. I was pretty pleased with myself. Two days after it came out, I go over to a friend-of-a-friend’s house. In the kitchen I look down and there’s a litter box for the cat — and there’s my piece in USA Today with a cat turd on top of it. That pretty much defines it.”
Pitt recently opened up about his divorce in an interview with NPR, explaining that he’s had to do some soul searching since the split. He said that working on Ad Astra was cathartic in a way.
“I would be exploring it whether there was a script that allowed that or not. A breakup of a family is certainly an eye-opener that as one — and I’m speaking in general again — but as one needs to understand, I had to understand my own culpability in that, and what can I do better. Because I don’t want to go on like this.”
We’re sure to hear more about Pitt’s internal life now that awards season coverage is underway, but it’s safe to say that he isn’t down to talk when he starts dating again.
