Fox's 'Beverly Hills 90210' reboot premiered this summer on August 7th. The show featured its original cast including Gabrielle Carteris, Shannen Doherty, Jennie Garth, Brian Austin Green, Jason Priestley, Tori Spelling and Ian Ziering. Unfortunately, the reboot was made after Luke Perry's passing so he was unable to appear on the show. While many fans were excited to see their favorite Beverly Hills idols, the show declined in ratings and will not return for a second season. Season 1 of the reboot had six episodes.

The reboot's failure is most likely due to its decline in viewership over the six episodes. The first episode had an extremely high rating of 1.5 among adults aged 18 to 49 by the 5th episode, the rating dropped all the way to 0.7 with only 1.9 million total viewers. While the results showed that fans lost interest in the reboot with each episode, many had devastated responses to the show being cancelled. The main goal of the reboot, like the original show, was for the actors to play heightened versions of themselves acting out made-up scenarios as if it was their real lives.

As NBC's 13 WTH explains, the reboot explored these plotlines from the actors' fictionalized versions of their lives:

  1. Carteris exploring her sexuality
  1. Doherty as a protector of animals living in the great outdoors who is pulled back into the fray
  1. Garth dealing with divorce and a teenage daughter who is a budding actress
  1. Priestley, a director, struggling with infidelity by his wife, and with his own infidelity as he reunites with Garth
  1. Green struggling with having a more famous spouse and learning about the son he never knew
  1. Spelling trying to pay the bills after she and her husband lose their reality show
  1. Ziering also struggling with his marriage before entering a relationship with a writer (who he learns in the finale is the daughter of someone he used to date, played by Denise Richards)"

In regards to the reboot, Fox told TVLine, “We are so proud to have reunited in a very special summer event one of the network’s legacy series and casts with 90210 fans across the country,” the network said in a statement. “Profound thanks to and respect for Brian [Austin Green], Gabrielle [Carteris], Ian [Ziering], Jason [Priestley], Jennie [Garth], Shannen [Doherty] and Tori [Spelling], who, along with the entire crew and everyone at FOX and CBS Television Studios, poured their hearts and souls into this truly inventive and nostalgic revival.”
