Cast Rounding Out For 'Impeachment: American Crime Story'

Actress Betty Gilpin, who is probably best known for playing Debbie Eagan and Liberty Belle in the '80s women's wrestling drama "GLOW," will next portray conservative pundit Ann Coulter in the third season of "American Crime Story" called "Impeachment."

"Impeachment: American Crime Story" is going to be based off "A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President," by author Jeffrey Toobin. The book goes into the sex scandal between former President Bill Clinton and former White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

The season will also feature Beanie Feldstein as Lewinsky, Clive Owen as Bill Clinton, Annaleigh Ashford as Paula Jones and Billy Eichner as Matt Drudge.

Sarah Burgess is going to write the show and executive-produce, along with Richard Shepard. There's a long line of producers as well, with Lewinsky, Henrietta Conrad and Jemima Khan among them.

Gripping the Nation

"Impeachment: American Crime Story" will cover what became known as the Clinton-Lewinsky sex scandal, which broke in January, 1998.

Lewinsky was a White House aide who said she had sexual encounters with President Clinton while they were in the White House between 1995 and 1997.

Later, when Lewinsky was working as assistant to chief Pentagon spokesman Kenneth Bacon, she told her co-worker, Linda Tripp, about the sexual relationship she had with Clinton.

Tripp began to secretly record the phone conversations she had with her in 1997, in which Lewinsky leaked salacious details about her encounters with Clinton, including the blue dress that allegedly had evidence of Clinton's semen on it. Those taped phone calls were eventually turned over. Tripp was later fired by the Pentagon.

Gilpin has scored high points for her performance as '80s wrestler, producer and mom Debbie Eagan, an all-American sweetheart by day and wrestler Liberty Belle at night.

"GLOW" is set to wrap after its upcoming fourth season, so it would make sense that Gilpin could jump right into this role after "GLOW" closes its curtains.

Gilpin will also appear in the movie The Hunt and the Netflix comedy Coffee & Kareem, as well as The Tomorrow War.

The growing Clinton-Lewinsky scandal resulted in Clinton's impeachment by the U.S. House of Representatives in 1998. He was tried in the Senate on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice, but was acquitted of all charges.

Ann Coulter wrote the book: "High Crimes and Misdemeanors: The Case Against Bill Clinton," which included a section on Clinton's sex scandal with Lewinsky.

"Impeachment: American Crime Story" is scheduled to air either in late 2020 or early 2021.
