Bella Thorne opened up about stereotypes and preconceived notions people have about her and her ethnicity on Friday.

"The Life of a Wannabe Mogul" author shared a sultry video to Instagram and admitted that she used a filter to make her hair and skin look darker. The 22-year-old wore a tight white sports bra and a matching pair of hip-hugging shorts in the playful video so there a lot of skin showing.

"Being Cuban/Latin in most people’s eyes means having dark eyes, dark hair, and dark skin, I’m naturally blonde I have hazel brown eyes and I try not to go in the sun because skin cancer runs in my family," Bella wrote in the caption of her post. "I put an effect on this video, and looking at it I like me looking tan with darker hair."

Thorne continued her candid musings by explaining that she wants to be more connected with her heritage despite her appearance. The former Disney star admitted that the opinions of others have kept her from embracing all parts of her culture.

"Honestly I wish I looked more Latin so I could feel more Latin so I could feel closer to my father and be prouder of my heritage...to wear my heritage on my skin," she said. "it’s just hard sometimes when no one thinks u are who u are...and everyone wants u to be something else :/ I LOVE MY CUBAN HERITAGE."

Back in 2015, the star described growing up in Florida with a very Latin family to Glamor Magazine. "To me, being Latin is about more than your looks—it's how you're brought up. I was raised in a very Latin family. My first language was Spanish, but I had to drop it when I started school because of my dyslexia. I still understand it, though, especially since my mom uses Spanish to tell me to take out the trash or do the dishes!"

Bella's father, who was from Cuba, passed away from a motorcycle accident when she was just 10-years-old and it seems like she wants to fill the cultural hole left by his passing.

Recently, the star hinted that she was engaged to Italian pop star, Benjamin Mascolo. Bella shared a pic of her boyfriend last week and teased a "big announcement." Thorne is very savoy when it comes to social media and promotion so it could simply be just a tease for her next project... but we certainly hope the cute couple is truly engaged. Her Instagram post showed a dapper-looking Ben on a Vaporetto (Italian water taxi) as he rests his hands on Bella's thigh.

"???big announcement coming soon. I’m so happy Boats in Venice ❤️❤️❤️," she captioned her intriguing post.

The fans never really got a complete answer but Thorne has been busy filming an action movie in Puerto Rico where she shows off her MMA skills so maybe the big announcement will come when she reconnects with her long-distance lover.
