Beba Rexha is firing back after she said a music executive told her she was “too old.” Rexha also says she’s “fed up” with labels put on women just because they get older.
Rexha posted a message to her Instagram, included a photo of her in her underwear and bra, and explained the situation.
“I recently had a MALE music executive tell me that I was getting too old and that my brand was ‘confusing.’ Because… I’m a songwriter and I post sexy pics on my Instagram and that’s not what female songwriters are supposed to do, especially for my age. I’m 29,” she wrote.
“I’m fed up with being put in a box. I make my own rules. I’m tired of women getting labeled as ‘hags’ when they get old and gets get labeled as sexy with age,” Rexha said, and of course she’s right.
Her breakout single was “If It’s Meant To Be,” which hit number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Her career has barely begun, and she’s not about to let anyone tell her she can’t do something.
Her post has gained about 1 million likes, so it’s definitely striking a chord with people. She’s also facing turning 30, and she’s handling it beautifully.
“Anyways, I’m turning 30 on Aug. 30 and you know what, I’m not running away from it. I’m not gonna lie about my age or sing songs that I feel will sell better because they sound ‘younger.’ I’m gonna celebrate my age because you know what, I’m wiser, I’m stronger and TRUST ME, I’m a much better lover than I was 10 years ago.”
Artists like Taylor Swift, Rita Ora, the Chainsmokers, Natasha Bedingfield and others sent Rexha their support. Swift had the strongest message, telling her: “DRAG THEM. 29 YEAR OLDS UNITE.”
