'The Bachelor' Dating Show Casts Its First Ever Black Lead, Matt James!

'The Bachelor' just announced its next leading man, and for the first time in history, the dating show has a black male lead, Matt James!

The news was announced Friday on 'Good Morning America' which the network saying they are 'privileged to have Matt' as the first-ever black bachelor.

The choice comes on the heels of several past contestants and people affiliated with the show, who pressed producers to create a more diverse cast and feature an African-American lead on both 'Bachelor' and 'Bachelorette.'

The show issued a statement regarding this season's pick, saying, "We know we have a responsibility to make sure the love stories we’re seeing onscreen are representative of the world we live in, and we are proudly in service to our audience."

It continued, "This is just the beginning, and we will continue to take action with regard to diversity issues on this franchise. We feel so privileged to have Matt as our first Black Bachelor and we cannot wait to embark on this journey with him.”

The announcement also followed a fast-rising petition calling for the franchises executive producer, Mike Fleiss, to cast more people of color.

At this point, the petition has gathered almost 100,000 signature, and calls the show's lack of diversity, 'unacceptable.' It noted, that in 40 combined seasons of 'The Bachelor' And 'The Bachelorette,' Lindsay was the only black lead.

The Guy Is RIPPED!

As you know, Matt James was a contestant on Clare Crawley's season of "The Bachelorette" in season 16, but nobody really got to know him because production was shut down due to the pandemic.

So, there was some confusion if he remained one of the suitors in the show, However, in May, the host told ET, "As far as I know, [he'll still be a contestant]. I mean, I have not heard anything different. I mean. I don't know if he wants to do this after quarantine, who knows? But as far as I know, yes."

Together with his close friend and roommate Tyler Cameron, run the charity organization ABC Food Tours.
