Donald Trump Offers 'Condolences' to the Families of Anthony Bourdain, Kate Spade

President Donald Trump is extending "heartfelt condolences" to the families of Anthony Bourdain and Kate Spade, both of whom took their own lives this week in separate incidents.

A reporter asked the President his thoughts on the unexpected suicide of Bourdain as Trump was leaving for the G-7 summit in Quebec, Canada.

“I think its very sad,” Trump said. “I want to extend to his family my heartfelt condolences. That was very shocking. When I woke up this morning, ‘Anthony Bourdain is dead.’ And I enjoyed his show, he was quite a character, I will say."

Chef and award-winning television host Anthony Bourdain was found dead on June 8 at a hotel in France. The cause was suicide by hanging.

President Barack Obama also reacted to Bourdain's passing on social media with a photo of the pair from Hanoi.

Earlier in the week, fashion icon Kate Spade was found dead in her Park Avenue apartment. The cause of death was also suicide by hanging.

In addition to his sadness over Bourdain, President Trump also spoke briefly about Spade's passing.

"I just want to extend my condolences, and also to the family of Kate Spade,” Trump said.
