Al Roker is suing his landlord claiming they are trying to stick him with the bill for some remodeling work he did to an office he’s been renting for the last 10 years.
According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Roker’s company, Al Roker Entertainment, leased office space in midtown Manhattan back in 2008. The lease was for 15 years but both sides had the option to terminate the lease in 2018.
Roker says he chose to invoke the Early Termination Option and gave his landlord the date of November 30, 2018 as to when he’d vacate the space.
But Roker claims after he did, his landlord sent him a letter saying that the “structural improvements” Roker made to the space during his time there had to be removed at Roker’s expense.
Al Roker claims he had his landlord’s permission to make the change — which included floor to ceiling walls, electrical installations, plumbing fixtures and doors — and nothing in the lease stated he had to remove them when he left.
He is asking a judge to rule that he does not have to foot the bill for the work and for an injunction protecting his security deposit on the space.
