One of the major upsets of the 2019 Emmy Awards was the total comedy dominance of Amazon's Fleabag, which took home Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series.

While Fleabag season two earned glowing reviews and a dedicated fanbase upon its release, most expected HBO's Veep to sweep for its final season.

2. Does This Mean More Seasons?

Fleabag's creator, writer, and star Phoebe Waller-Bridge said previously that the second season was always intended to be the last, ending on a bittersweet yet fitting note. However, many wondered if this awards excellence could mean more Fleabag. Amazon chief Jennifer Salke told TVLine that they were holding out hope for a third season:

"Nothing would make us happier than to have [Waller-Bridge] bring another season of that show, or anything else she wants to do. I mean, I'm forever the optimist, so I remain always hopeful until it's really over. So I'm hoping."

3. A Perfect Farewell

However, after her wins, Waller-Bridge reiterated that those twelve perfect episodes were all that we're ever going to get.

"To be honest, this just feels like the most beautiful, beautiful way to say goodbye to it, actually. It does feel like the story is complete. It does feel right. Go out on a high. You can't get higher than this."

You'll just have to write fanfiction about Fleabag and the Hot Priest getting back together on your own time, fans. Or just keep your eyes peeled for Waller-Bridge's next project.
