Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi made a surprise announcement this week on her podcast, "It's Happening With Snooki & Joey," that she is leaving the MTV "Jersey Shore" series.

"It's definitely a hard decision," she said. "You guys, I love you so much and don't hate me for my decision. But I have to do what's best for me at the moment. I am retiring from Jersey Shore."

Polizzi cited her family as a major reason for not coming back for season 4 of "Jersey Shore Family Reunion."

"I am not coming back to 'Jersey Shore' for Season 4 if there is one," the 32-year-old said. "And there's a lot of reasons why, but the main reason is... I just can't do it anymore. Literally, leaving my kids to film it is really hard on me," she continued.

"I try and quit every single day. I just hate being away from the kids. I don’t like partying three days in a row. It’s just not my life anymore. I want to be home with the kid. It’s just really hard for me to leave the kids and film the show."

She also added that the drama surrounding the shows become too much for her to handle.

"If I'm doing a reality show, I want it to be fun and I want it to be light-hearted and lately it’s not that," she said. "The show is getting so dramatic. I can’t be part of something like that, especially when I’m leaving my kids and I’m hurting. I just need to do what’s best for me right now."

Earlier this week, she shared a tribute to her "Jersey Shore" cast mates on Instagram. She posted a photo of the show's logo with the caption, "HAPPY 10 YEARS TO MY DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY! We old, fam! It’s been a wild ride."

The post had fans thanking her for the journey. "Your viewers from day one, like ME (I consider us friends) are ALSO OLD. thanks for letting us tag along for the ride," one wrote.

"Happy 10!! Still love watching! Meet you at the beach!" another said.

"Congrats you guys and here's to many more," a third fan commented.
