Karrueche Tran’s ex-manager slapped the actress with a federal lawsuit demanding she pays back the money he spent on launching her career.
According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Yaqwb Muhammed aka Jacob York and his company Electric Republic have filed a countersuit against Karrueche.
Earlier this year, Karrueche sued Jacob accusing him of screwing her out of $1.4 million owed to her. He denies all allegations of wrongdoing. He says he performed his contractual obligations and caused no damage to his former client. Jacob says he did not commit fraud when it comes to her business dealings. He is asking the court for all claims against him to be dismissed.
In his counter-complaint, Jacob says this dispute centers around an oral agreement they made in 2013. He says he spent a ton of money to “launch, promote and market” Karrueche’s “fledging career.”
Jacob claims to have paid for her acting lessons and funded her lavish lifestyle for years. He accuses Karrueche of owing him money for building her career in excess of the $1.4 million she claims to be owed.
In her lawsuit, Karrueche said she paid Jacob 20% commission from all projects and allowed him to collect her money owed. Last year, she did an examination of her financial records and learned Jacob owed her $267,000 for personal appearance gigs. Her lawyer fired off a demand letter for the money.
Karrueche did a little more research on her business income. She allegedly found out Jacob failed to pay her $1.4 million owed from her makeup line with ColourPop.
Tran said, “Electric had only paid Tran $276,003.90 attributable to the Venture, thereby causing Tran to believe that the Venture had only generated approximately $345,004.87 in total revenues. Defendants encouraged this false belief by repeatedly misrepresenting to Tran that the Venture had not been particularly successful and that her relatively low royalty payments were, therefore, to be expected. In truth, the Venture had been one of ColourPop’s most successful cosmetic lines to date.”
The case is ongoing.
