There has been a reckoning on Twitter recently, with many people making accusations of sexual assault on social media. Recent accusations have been leveled at comedian Chris D'Elia and actor Ansel Elgort, and the latest to face troubling allegations in Justin Bieber.

An anonymous woman wrote in now deleted tweets that Bieber sexually assaulted her on March 9, 2014, after a surprise performance at SXSW when she was 21 and the singer was 20.

Bieber took the allegations seriously, and addressed them in an extremely thorough Twitter thread packed with literal receipts. He began by saying that he doesn't normally pay attention to rumors, but this one felt necessary to acknowledge.

"I don’t normally address things as I have dealt with random accusations my entire career but after talking with my wife and team I have decided to speak up on an issue tonight."

"Rumors are rumors but sexual abuse is something I don’t take lightly. I wanted to speak out right away but out of respect to so many victims who deal with these issues daily I wanted to make sure I gathered the facts before I made any statement."

Bieber continued, explaining that the accusation was baseless because he was never present at the Four Seasons, where the woman claimed that the assault took place. Bieber explained that yes, while the surprise show did take place, he attended with his then girlfriend Selena Gomez.

He provided a link to an article corroborating his claim, as well as photos of the two of them from the event. He also managed to dig up tweets that he was at the Four Seasons restaurant the day after the event, not as a guest at the hotel.

'Factually Impossible'

Bieber also shared receipts proving that he wasn't a guest at the Four Seasons at that time, saying:

"Furthermore I stayed with Selena and our friends at an airbnb on the 9th and on the 10th stayed at a Westin because our hotel reservation at LÀ Quinta and not the four seasons was messed up. Here are the receipts for the hotel on the 10th"

Bieber also claimed to "have also confirmed with the Four Seasons regional manager that I was never on property on the 9th of March 2014 and never a guest on the 9th or the 10th and I welcome all press to inquire with them if needed or wanted."

Sexual Abuse Needs To Be Taken Seriously

Bieber also shared an invoice from the Westin proving that he was a guest there at the time under the alias Mike Lowery, which he says he will no longer be using.

Bieber wraps up his defense by saying "Every claim of sexual abuse should be taken very seriously and this is why my response was needed. However this story is factually impossible and that is why I will be working with twitter and authorities to take legal action." He also retweeted a statement from Riverdale star Cole Sprouse (who is dealing with his own Twitter accusations) that said:

"False accusations do tremendous damage to victims of actual assault. Furthermore, I would never seek to silence anybody. I encourage that people look into the accusations themselves, as the events detailed were factually untrue."
