Making Changes For COVID-19

President Trump once again courted controversy by calling a potential vote by mail system "corrupt." While many Democrats are pushing the change in order to keep voters safe while exercising their constitutional rights during the coronavirus threat, Trump (who voted by mail absentee in 2018) is adamantly against it. He said:

"Well, there’s a big difference between somebody that’s out of state and does a ballot and everything’s sealed, certified and everything else. You see what you have to do with the certifications," he said, claiming without evidence that there could otherwise be "thousands of people sitting in somebody’s living room signing ballots."

"No, I think mail in voting is a terrible thing. I think if you vote, you should go."

Many were outraged at this response, including The Voice judge, People's reigning Sexiest Man Alive, and noted Trump critic, singer John Legend.

Legend responded to the President's stance on Twitter, writing:

"The President and I have something in common. We vote by mail. He thinks it's great for him but hates the idea that it could lead to an increase in voter participation. He and many in his party are afraid of the voters. His opposition to democracy is nefarious and hypocritical."

Legend has criticized Trump on a number of occasions, tweeting out "Don't trust that people who are the lyingest liars in Presidential history will suddenly start telling the truth about a possible war with Iran." He also wrote that "The President is a cancer and needs to be removed from office as soon as possible."

Trump Can't Ignore It

Trump has incredibly thin skin, and while he hasn't (yet) commented on Legend's latest slam, he has in the past. When Legend was unimpressed by Trump's prison reform initiative, Trump wrote on Twitter:

"I SIGNED IT INTO LAW, no one else did, & Republicans deserve much credit. But now that it is passed, people that had virtually nothing to do with it are taking the praise. Guys like boring....."

"....musician @johnlegend, and his filthy mouthed wife, are talking now about how great it is - but I didn’t see them around when we needed help getting it passed. “Anchor” @LesterHoltNBC doesn’t even bring up the subject of President Trump or the Republicans when talking about...."

Hilariously, Legend's "filthy mouthed wife" Chrissy Teigen had the best response, writing "Tagged everyone but me. An honor, Mister President."

After Trump called him boring, Legend made a joking plea to the First Lady:

"Imagine being president of a whole country and spending your Sunday night hate-watching MSNBC hoping somebody--ANYBODY--will praise you. Melania, please praise this man. He needs you."

"Your country needs you, Melania."

The President is increasingly harried as the COVID-19 threat continues to be deadly, so it's incredibly possible that he will lash out at Legend in good time.
