Jennifer Lopez and Shakira are co-headlining the Super Bowl halftime show, and ahead of Sunday's game, the divas took part in a press conference in Miami to give people a taste of what's to come. From the sounds of things, the 12-minute performance is going to be one for the books. Lopez explained that the show is "packed," but she didn't offer up too many details.

"When we did the first run-through, Shakira was like, 'That was great.' It's different what we do. It's very Shakira and very Jennifer."

A Revolutionary Pairing

The team up between Lopez and Shakira is bound to be iconic, and Shakira pointed out that the fact that they are both women and both Latina is a huge step in terms of representation.

"It would be something hard to believe and it’s a reality today and I just think that this is a palpable example that it’s possible and that the only thing that matters is the size of your dreams. It’s an opportunity to remind us all [Latinos] of what an important force we are."

Lopez agreed.

"The two teams that are playing are run by women, then you have two women headlining the halftime show. — That statement alone is empowering to me. When I think of my daughter [Emme, 11] and all the girls around the world — to have two Latinas doing this, I’m very proud to put forth that message."

A Ton Of Work

While it has been reported that JLo and Shakira would be performing separately for most of the set, there will be a segment that blends their two styles. Lopez explained that they worked hard as hell to get the show just right.

"The creative process is really intense when it comes to a show of this magnitude. But we worked together to make this the best show possible. I also think that sports and music are the two things that can join people together in any part of the world, and we have that opportunity this Sunday, and we are going to do our best."

A Tribute To Kobe Bryant

They also confirmed that there would be a tribute to Kobe Bryant during the performance. Lopez explained that there would be a "heartfelt" moment to honor Bryant and Shakira elaborated:

"We'll all be remembering Kobe on Sunday and celebrating life and diversity in this country. I'm sure he'd be very proud to see the message we are trying to convey on stage that day."

Lopez recounted the story of her fiancé Alex Rodriguez sharing the tragic news with her.

"Alex walked in with tears in his eyes and said, ‘You’ll never believe what just happened.’"
