In the latest episode of Red Table Talk, the Smith family opened up about their own health issues and the importance of dealing with your health head on. In the episode, the family enlisted Dr. Mark Hyman and nutritionist Mona Sharma to help them fix their problems, particularly Jaden’s intense stomach issues.
Jaden was a little leery of getting involved in this episode after the backlash that he faced in his previous episode when he explained how he went vegan.
“After the last episode, I walk in the street and people are like, ‘Oh my god! Are you sick? Can I pick you up? Could I get you some water?’ Come up to me like, ‘You can have my food, man.'”
However, Dr. Hyman was very encouraging to Jaden, letting him know that the vitamin deficiencies that were causing his issues could be fixed through diet and supplements. According to Dr. Hyman, gluten and dairy were “big problems” for Jaden, and his veganism was causing “vitamin and omega-3 deficiencies.” Still, these were all fixable problems according to the doctor.
“When you fix your stomach, your diet expands, you take a few supplements, everything’s back to normal. You’re gonna rock the world.”
Back in September, Will and Jada were extremely concerned about Jaden’s insufficient diet. Jaden explained on an episode of Red Table Talk at the time:
“I was just eating, like, two meals a day. And maybe one. I was not doing good. I wasn’t looking good, I wasn’t feeling good, I wasn’t sleeping.”
Will and Jada had to intervene and were very worried about their son. According to Jada:
“Will and I had a bit of an intervention with Jaden because he’s a vegan now, but we realized he wasn’t getting enough protein. So he was wasting away. He just looked drained, he was just depleted. He wasn’t getting the nutrients.”
Will agreed:
“He had the dark circles under his eyes, there was even a little grayness to his skin. And we got really nervous.”
Will has also been honest about his health issues, sharing that he got a colonoscopy that found a polyp and had it removed. He explained how important it was to take care of yourself.
“2019, gotta get our health right. There’s a certain amount of commitment and embarrassment involved with being healthy. Just gotta do it, man. It’s important to me to be able to share this with people so, you know, other people can become compliant patients to stay healthy and happy to have all the glorious years we can possibly have.”
