Like many people, Chrissy Teigen was celebrating Memorial Day with her family in quarantine, and she posted some adorable pictures of her children with the caption:

"happy Memorial Day from our monsters to yours."

People on Twitter immediately took offense at Teigen's use of "happy," considering Memorial Day is a holiday of remembrance of American troops who have lost their lives serving our country.

"I will never understand why Americans say 'happy memorial day.' Sigh."

"Please don't say Happy Memorial Day - it's a day of mourning, not celebration."

"Military members and their families....don’t bore today as happy or a day to celebrate. I have to watch my husband extra on today as he mourns for his friends who were lost. There’s no picnic etc for us. It’s the the 4th, I think America has this day so backwards."

Backlash Was Swift

Well, Teigen is well-versed in Twitter controversy by now, and she didn't have time for the critics hounding her today. Her first response was to tweet:

"ok sh-tty Memorial Day from my monsters to yours."

Teigen pointed out that her dad was a marine, and tweeted out a response to this manufactured controversy.

"No one says that. Everyone says happy Memorial Day. Because people made the ultimate sacrifice for us to celebrate this day, together, with them in mind. F-ckin sh-t."

Her Initial Response

Teigen seemed to get increasingly frustrated, tweeting:

She followed up with a joke, saying "wait til you find out I’m making queso fundido today" before quipping that maybe it should be called "queso sadito."

[Teigen also responded]9 to one of her detractors, writing:

"nah I get it. I can’t say anything anyone else can. I get it well, trust me."

Ultimately, people didn't want to give Teigen the benefit of the doubt on this one and kept dragging her for the simple act of saying "Happy Memorial Day."

Addressing The Issue

Ultimately, Teigen decided to focus on making some rather delicious looking queso fundido, but before she stopped replying, she wrote a series of tweets to end the matter in classic Chrissy fashion:

"But really. Happy Memorial Day, or just Memorial Day. Whatever you feel. Thinking of all our vets, including my dad, grandpa, great grandpa and great great grandpa. Who all served."

"Dead vets* but that didn’t sound as good. Can you leave me alone now or should I make the queso with my arm"

"sh-t my bad my dad is indeed alive I forgot"

"Anyhow all those other vets in my family, dead. Dead dead dead."
