On March 22, 2017, an Ariana Grande concert at Manchester Arena in the UK was bombed, leaving 22 people dead and over 100 wounded. It was a truly horrific act of terror, and left Grande and her fans dealing with the aftermath.

Following the event, Grande dealt with serious PTSD and used her grief to organize an all-star benefit concert in order to raise money for the victims and their families. During the show, Grande said:

"I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for being here today. I want to thank you so much for coming together and being so loving and strong and unified. I love you guys so much and I think that the kind of love and unity you're displaying is the kind of medicine that the world really needs right now."

Honoring The Anniversary

As the third anniversary of the bombing approaches on Friday, Grande took to Instagram to remember the day and to offering her words of support to the victims. She wrote in an Instagram Story:

"I want to take a moment to acknowledge and send my love to everyone that is feeling the sadness and tremendous heaviness of the anniversary coming up this week. Not a day goes by that this doesn’t affect you and all of us still. I will be thinking of you all week and weekend. My heart, thoughts, prayers are with you always."

An Emotional Letter

Back in 2018, Grande's YouTube docuseries Dangerous Woman Diaries featured an emotional open letter that the singer had written in order to process her feelings about the traumatic event. She said in the letter:

"Music is an escape. Music is the safest thing I’ve ever known. Music—pop music, stan culture—is something that brings people together, introduces them to some of their best friends, and makes them feel like they can be themselves. It is comfort. It is fun. It is expression. It is happiness. It is the last thing that would ever harm someone. It is safe. When something so opposite and so poisonous takes place in your world that is supposed to be everything but that…It is shocking and heartbreaking in a way that seems impossible to fully recover from."

Dealing With The Aftermath

Grande continued, acknowledging the tragedy and encouraging people to keep moving forward in hope.

"The spirit of the people of Manchester, the families affected by this horrendous tragedy, and my fans around the world have permanently impacted all of us for the rest of our lives. Their love, strength, and unity showed me, my team, my dancers, band, and entire crew not to be defeated. To continue during the scariest and saddest of times. To not let hate win. But instead, love as loudly as possible, and to appreciate every moment. The people of Manchester were able to change an event that portrayed the worst of humanity into one that portrayed the most beautiful of humanity."

It's clear that Grande will forever be affected by this tragedy, so we're wishing her and the victims and their families peace as they remember the day.
