A Shocking Snub

The 2020 Oscar nominates was full of weird omissions -- Jennifer Lopez didn't learn to be an expert pole dancer at 50 years old to be snubbed like that -- and one of the major ones was Adam Sandler for Uncut Gems.

While fans may have gotten used to Sandler's usual fair like Grown Ups and Murder Mystery, the comedian gave a career best performance as the duplicitous Howard Ratner. People loved Uncut Gems despite it being extremely high tension, and Sandler's snub feels like a weird choice.

A Hilarious Response

Sandler is a good sport -- He's Adam Sandler after all -- and he responded to the news in a funny tweet acknowledging the end of his awards season and celebrating his return to sweatpants. Fun fact: Sandler refers to himself as "Sandman."

"Bad news: Sandman gets no love from the Academy. Good news: Sandman can stop wearing suits. Congrats to all my friends who got nominated, especially Mama."

Kathy Bates played Sandler's mother in his career making movie, The Waterboy, and it's pretty heartwarming that the two are still friends over 20 years later.

Kathy Bates Weighs In

Bates played along on Twitter, sharing the good humor and wishing Sandler was also a nominee.

"I love you my Bobby Boucher!!! You was robbed!! But Mama loves you!!! I learned a new urban slang word for you! You da GOAT!! Not the one we eat at home, Son. ❤️😎🐐"

Bates was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the controversial Richard Jewell, and she released a statement expressing her gratitude.

"Thank you to the Academy for this wonderful recognition. I am very proud of this film and it was truly an honor to work with the legendary Clint Eastwood on bringing the truth of Richard Jewell to light, along with the incredible Paul, Sam, Olivia, Jon, Nina, Ian and Niko,. My hope is that this film brings the justice and peace Richard and Bobi Jewell deserve by shining a light on their story and his heroism."

Will He Make Good On This Funny Threat?

Sandler joked around in an interview last year explaining what he'll do if he doesn't get an Oscar nomination, saying:

"If I don’t get it, I’m going to f*cking come back and do one again that is so bad on purpose just to make you all pay. That’s how I get them."

So, is Sandman going to make good on that promise? Should we expect Jack and Jill 2? The Ridiculous Seven: Even More Offensive? Or will Sandler continue on this trend of unrecognized greatness and work with the Safdie Brothers again?
