Tupac Shakur is alive and well...in Kentucky, but because of a snafu with his unemployment check, he is still having to wait on the government to send him a payment. Let us explain.

Kentucky's governor, Andy Beshear, went on the attack against someone in the state who filed for unemployment under the name -- Tupac Shakur.

“We had somebody apply for unemployment for Tupac Shakur here in Kentucky. And that person may have thought they were being funny, they probably did. Except for the fact that because of them, we had to go through so many other claims," the gov. said angrily during a press conference.

The problem -- Tupac Shuker is a REAL and alive guy living in Kentucky.

Tupac Malki Shakur is a 46-year-old man who lives in the Lexington area. He actually goes by his middle name, but his real name is the same as the legendary dead rappers' (Tupac Shakur).

According to local news reports, on the first day, he possibly could (March 13) Tupac filed for unemployment benefits. The problem is the payments never showed up.

The Lexington man spoke to Kentucky.com saying he has been calling the office frequently to try and figure out why his claim didn’t go through. He said he is obviously trying to figure out what happened, but never guessed it’s because the government thought it was a joke.

“I’ve been struggling for like the last month trying to figure out how to pay the bills," he said.

Kentucky Tupac was upset and said at the time that the Gov. should apologize to him. “I’m hurt, I’m really embarrassed and I’m shocked. He needs to apologize. That’s just my name," he said.

At first, Beshear's office claimed they could not confirm the identity of Lexington Tupac, but the Herald-Leader newspaper who was covering the story gave Mr. Shakur's phone number to his office.

Beshear called Shakur the next day personally and apologized!

Tupac says he appreciated the call and forgave the governor's office for making the simple mistake. “I understand, he’s dealing with a lot," he said. "Mistakes happen.”

As for how he got the name -- Shakur was not born with the same name as the famous rapper. He claims his father practiced Islam and after he died in the 1990s, he started following the religion.

He says he decided to change his name in 1998 and that he chose the last name because it means “thankful to God” in Arabic.

Of course, as you know, the rapper Tupac Shakur died in 1996.

Up until this point, people who learn of his name either laugh at it or think it's dope, Shakur says. But, he never thought it would stop him from getting unemployment.
