Bill Cosby is accusing his former lawyers of fraud and demanding their $282,000 lawsuit over their work on his criminal case be dismissed.
According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Cosby denies he screwed over the law firm Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis. He accuses them of sending inflated invoices for their work.
He explains neither him nor his lead criminal attorney, Thomas Mesereau, "or any other authorized representative directed or requested that Plaintiff perform legal work totaling $183,000.00 over the short period of two months. Indeed, and by Plaintiff’s own admission, Plaintiff served as Cosby’s counsel of record and Attorney Mesereau served as lead criminal defense counsel. Consequently, the overwhelming majority of the legal work was performed by Mr. Mesereau and his team."
Cosby says “any alleged legal work performed was unnecessary, duplicative of work performed by lead counsel, inflated and therefore unauthorized and inappropriate. Proof to the contrary is specifically demanded."
Cosby denies they are owed a dime and is demanding the entire lawsuit be thrown out.
The disgraced comedian hired the firm in March 2016, and they worked on both civil and criminal cases relating to the numerous sexual assault allegations against him.
The firm claimed Bill Cosby paid them for some work but then refused to pay for further work they did on his cases. The lawyers say his team kept promising the invoices would be paid and they stayed on until April 2018, despite the outstanding balances.
They sued demanding the $282k plus interest.
