Alice Johnson, the Tennessee woman Kim Kardashian West has been fighting for, has had her sentence commuted by President Donald Trump.
Kardashian tweeted out her excitement and gratitude over the news, writing in all caps, "BEST NEWS EVER."
She added, "So grateful to @realDonaldTrump, Jared Kushner & to everyone who has showed compassion & contributed countless hours to this important moment for Ms. Alice Marie Johnson. Her commutation is inspirational & gives hope to so many others who are also deserving of a second chance."
The White House released a statement saying, "Ms. Johnson has accepted responsibility for her past behavior and has been a model prisoner over the past two decades. Despite receiving a life sentence, Alice worked hard to rehabilitate herself in prison, and act as a mentor to her fellow inmates. Her Warden, Case Manager, and Vocational Training Instructor have all written letters in support of her clemency."
Kim recently started fighting on behalf of Johnson, a low-level drug offender currently serving a life sentence for a nonviolent drug offense. Last week, the KKW mogul and her attorney Shawn Holley met with President Trump in the Oval Office to plead her case for Johnson's freedom.
In a photo from the meeting exclusively obtained by The Blast, you can see Kim is addressing the president directly about the topic.
CNN reported earlier today that the Trump administration organized the paperwork for dozens of new pardons, which included Johnson.
