Leeann Tweeden, the morning news anchor on TalkRadio 790 KABC in Los Angeles, says Sen. Al Franken kissed her and groped her during a USO Tour back in 2006.
Tweeden — who has appeared on the cover of magazines like FHM, Maxim and Playboy — explained she went on the tours often because her father served in Vietnam and her boyfriend at the time (now husband) was in the Air Force.
In an article on KABC.com, Tweeden recounted a story of Franken insisting on rehearsing a kiss for a skit the two were going to perform.
"We did the line leading up to the kiss and then he came at me, put his hand on the back of my head, mashed his lips against mine and aggressively stuck his tongue in my mouth," she wrote. "I immediately pushed him away with both of my hands against his chest and told him if he ever did that to me again I wouldn’t be so nice about it the next time."
Tweeden said after the trip was over, she reviewed a set of photos given to her by the photographer on the trip and discovered one of Franken appearing to grope her while she slept.
"I felt violated all over again. Embarrassed. Belittled. Humiliated," she wrote. "How dare anyone grab my breasts like this and think it’s funny?"
In a statement to NBC News, Franken apologized, saying, "I certainly don't remember the rehearsal for the skit in the same way, but I send my sincerest apologies to Leeann. As to the photo, it was clearly intended to be funny but wasn't. I shouldn't have done it."
UPDATE 9:45 AM PT: Franken issued an updated apology. Read it below.
