Gabby Petito's Family Unveil Matching Tattoos Amid Continued Search For Brian Laundrie

Gabby Petito’s family is taking some time out to honor their loved one whose remains were found on Sept. 21 after a search spanning several weeks. Petito’s mom and stepdad, Nichole and Jim Schmidt, and her father and stepmom Joe and Tara Petito, now all share a “Let It Be” tattoo.

Petito’s loved ones shared the sentimental tattoos at a press conference in New York on Tuesday. This is the first time the family has spoken out since it was confirmed that her case is being treated as a homicide.

They shared that they all went and got the tattoos done the night before the press conference. The “Let it be” tattoo was complimented by the outline of waves and was placed on the right forearm. The family also revealed a second tattoo, a triangle with flowers inside on the left forearm.

Petito’s family confirmed she also had a similar triangle tattoo. “These were tattoos that Gabby designed herself,” said her stepfather Jim. “She was an artist.” Petito’s mom shared that the tattoos are a way for her to always feel her daughter.

“I wanted to have her with me all the time,” she said through tears.

The Family held the press conference to plead for more help finding Laundrie or tips that will help to piece together their daughter's last days. They also took the opportunity to announce that they have started a foundation in their Gabby's honor.

The foundation will focus on helping other families in similar situations as them. They also shared a special thank you to law enforcement and the media for all their help. Notably praising social media users for their quick actions and encouraging them to keep that same energy in other active missing persons cases.

“Social media has been amazing and very influential, and to be honest it should continue for other people as well, this same kind of heightened awareness should continue for everyone,” said Joe, Gabby’s father.

The family did not comment on Brian Laundrie or his parents. They have been advised by the FBI to avoid any comments regarding the Laundrie family. However, they did allow their attorney, Richard Stafford to address the Laundrie’s and their blatant lack to help find their daughter or their own son.

“The Laundries did not help us find Gabby, they sure are not going to help us find Brian,” said Stafford. He also addressed Brian specifically. “For Brian: we're asking you to turn yourself into the FBI or the nearest law enforcement agency.”

FBI and local law enforcement want to speak with Brian regarding Petito’s body and the case now being considered a homicide. Both he and his parents have not been cooperating.

Before the press conference ended, Gabby’s father revealed a special tattoo he got to memorialize his daughter. The tattoo is of a vine wrapping around his finger with leaves hanging off.

Interestingly enough, Brian has the same tattoo on his finger, the only difference is his leaves are colored in. The tattoo was initially a couple’s tattoo between Gabby and Brian but her father is reclaiming it.
