Phoebe Bridgers Sued For Defamation Over Social Media Comments

Phoebe Bridgersis being accused of defamation by a record producer. Chris Nelson claims the singer/songwriter trashed him on social media with lies. Now, he is suing her in a multimillion-dollar lawsuit.

Bridgers is accused of using her worldwide platform to intently destroy Nelson. The lawsuit filed this week does not specifically name why the 27-year-old would want to make life so hard for him but the documents do suggest some ideas.

Nelson, who is the owner of Sound Space recording studio claims that the singer went out of her way to spread vicious lies about him. Among some of the accusations that the “Motion Sickness” singer claimed on Instagram was that Nelson participated in “racially-motivated hate crimes.”

She also accused the producer of “grooming” and alleged, on social media, to have witnessed it with her own eyes. “[I] witnessed and can personally verify much of the abuse (grooming, stealing, violence) perpetuated by Chris Nelson.”

Bridgers is not the only one named in the lawsuit, an ex-girlfriend of Nelsons named Emily Bannon is also being accused of defamation because she too has posted some scathing accusations against the producer.

Bridgers encouraged her 1.1 million followers to go over to Bannon’s Instagram page where she was sharing details about Nelson allegedly beating “a young Latinx man to death.” She also accused her ex of defrauding buyers by selling them fake guitars.

Some of the other accusations that Bridgers was alleged co-signing on were accusations of Nelson stealing about $50,000 from one of his neighbors and hacking the email accounts of women.

In addition to the “I Know The End” singer making her own accusations and directing her followers to Bannon’s page, she also shared the same information that Bannon did on her IG page. This makes Bridgers just as culpable.

Nelson, through his lawyer, has stated in documents that he believes that his ex and Bridgers are “malicious” and seeking $3.8 million in damages is sounding about fair to him.

“Bridgers maliciously and intentionally posted the false and defamatory statements about [Nelson] as part of a vendetta to destroy [Nelson's] reputation that was enflamed by Bridgers and Bannon's sexual relationship.”

Well, apparently, Bridgers, Bannon, and Nelson were involved in some kind of relationship back in 2018. The lawsuit claims that the singer met the then-couple years ago but didn’t actually start working together until 2018.

This is when they all “began having consensual sexual encounters”. Nelson claims that he broke things off with Bannon in 2019 but insists that Bridgers and his ex continued their relationship. Nelson is expecting that this is where the accusations began spawning.

The producer also explained why he is seeking no less than $3.8 million, for basically having his coins messed with. Apparently, people do not want to work with someone who is being accused of heinous things.

He is also claiming emotional distress from being presented in a false light. Neither Bridgers nor anyone from her camp has responded to the lawsuit.
