There are a couple of things about this story that are extremely surprising. Obviously, the fact that Prince Andrew finds himself in multiple legal disputes isn’t one of those things. The Prince though is putting his $23.7 million ski resort chalet in Switzerland up for sale. What’s surprising about that, is that this is the only property that he can officially own.
Rumor has it that he’s putting the property up for sale to settle a legal issue. No, it’s not the legal issue that you’re probably thinking about. It’s actually a legal issue regarding the property itself!
The History of the Home
Seeing as how this is the only property that Prince Andrew personally owns it seems he wasn’t all too familiar with the way that the real estate market works. He bought the home back in 2014 along with his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson.
The chalet was meant to serve as a long-term family retreat spot.
However, Andrew never paid the previous owner the full price that was agreed upon for the property! Isabelle de Rouvre, the former owner, sued Andrew last year because she claimed that he still owed her 9 million dollars from the original transaction.
Coming To An Agreement
Apparently, it was completely true that Prince Andrew had failed to pay those remaining $9 million.
He and the former owner have potentially come to the agreement that the Prince will settle his debt with her once he resells the property. Isabelle de Rouvre has dropped her original lawsuit and everything points to the fact that the two were able to settle out of court. As far as the other issue that has Andrew in court, that one is probably not going to go away that easily.
No Update On His New York Case Yet
We’ve also reported that Prince Andrew had been served papers in his now ongoing legal battle with Virginia Roberts Giuffre.
Roberts claims that she was forced to have sexual intercourse with Prince Andrew by Jeffrey Epstein. All of this potentially took place when Roberts was still a minor.
The prince has denied the allegations and has even provided an alibi. Saying that at the time Roberts alleges the incidents took place he was with his daughter at a pizza place. This legal battle though is just begging and could cut deep into Andrew’s pockets at the very least!
Living With Mom
Although he’s having to sell the only property that he actually owns it’s not like Andrew is going to be left without a roof over his head. Luckily for him, and many other royals, his mother Queen Elizabeth is more than happy to let her son stay on one of her properties. Currently, Prince Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson live at Royal Lodge, on the Queen’s Windsor estate.
As long as the Queen keeps a roof over his head he’ll be fine in that department. Brother Prince Charles though, may not be as keen to protect his brother once he ascends the throne. His legal issues and the Queen’s age are potentially two things that keep Andrew up at night.
