"Euphoria" actress, Sydney Sweeney took a stand against online bullying in a tearful Instagram Live, and it quickly caught the attention of social media fans.

“Apparently I am trending on Twitter right now for being ugly,” the HBO star said. “I think it’s really important for people to see how words actually affect other people.”

The initial tweet which called Sweeney “ugly” was eventually taken down as many people came to the actress’ defense. “I know everyone says, ‘You can’t read things,’ and ‘You shouldn’t read things,’ but like, I’m a f—king person. I’m just sitting here with my dog Tink, watching HGTV, wearing my Snuggie. People need to be nicer on social media because it’s really f—ked up."

Several of her fans rallied to cheer up the crying celeb. One user tweeted, "If y’all think Sydney Sweeney is ugly idek know what I am." Another person tweeted, “I want every single person calling Sydney Sweeney ugly to do a face reveal right now."

Even singer Bea Miller came out in defense of the actress. “Whoever made Sydney Sweeney cry, drop your location. I just wanna talk,” she wrote. “We march at dawn.”

Sweeney also received criticism because she decided to do nudity in some of her acting projects. Her roles in "The Voyeurs" and "Euphoria" required the actress to do some nude scenes. Though she was hesitant at first, she shared that doing nudity helped her feel more empowered.

Sweeney Revealed How She Deals With Negative Comments Online

Sweeney, who also stars on "The Voyeurs," previously admitted that she cared about what people on the internet thought of her.

“I’m not gonna lie. I’m not one of those people who’s like, ‘I’m super confident. I don’t care what people think.’ I’m a real person,” she told Collider in November 2020. “I care what people say and what they think and what they comment, so I definitely am always like, ‘oh my god, should I post this?’”

She added that cancel culture makes her overthink social media posts often. “I’m terrified of what I’m not aware of or thinking when I post this, and I don’t want to be deaf to anything going on,” she said. “I get really nervous.”

In a recent interview with Teen Vogue, Sweeney shared that the hateful comments on the internet were difficult for her to deal with. However, she managed to find coping mechanisms to help her when things got rough.

“It definitely puts me down some days,” she shared about cyberhate. “I think that it does for everyone, even when you say it doesn’t, it does. Turning it off helps. Being surrounded by real people helps.”

Sweeney Dishes One Nudity

The star often received critical comments about her decision to appear naked on screen and dealt with her cinematic nudes being screenshotted and spread across social media, popping up out of context.

She told The Guardian recently that she disassociated from her characters. “It’s definitely out of my control,” she told Teen Vogue. "But I know what I’m getting into as I get into it. The easiest way that I’ve handled and separated myself from it is I’ve made it that when I see the picture, that is not me. When I see a picture like that, I truly say, 'that’s Cassie’s nude, or that’s Pippa’s nude.'"

At the same time, she wished the reactions didn't take on a tone of shame.

“I truly believe that love and the human body and the female body is another art form and is another way to communicate love and emotion and communication,” Sweeney said. “You can watch people brutalize and murder each other on TV, but then the moment someone shows their body it’s 'oh my god, the horror.’ I know many successful male actors who, if you put all their films together where they’re either nude or have a sex scene, it could be hours worth. But then they win Oscars," the star concluded.

Sweeney gave the perfect comeback to people who assumed she exposed her body because her acting skills were lacking.
