Camilla Luddington, the 37-year-old actress, who played Dr. Jo Wilson on the hit medical drama, “Grey’s Anatomy,” shocked fans with a dramatic hair transformation on Wednesday. She revealed, with an Instagram post, that she'd bleached her brunette locks blonde ahead of the series’ season 18, which is set to debut on September 30 on ABC.
The photo featured a bright blonde bob with beachy waves and dark roots. Luddington finished her look with black winged eyeliner and pink lip color. She captioned the picture, "Season 18," and tagged hairstylists Stefani Oppocher, Christina Meneses and Justine Marjan, and her makeup artist Tonya Brewer.
Luddington's look marked a major transformation for the star, who has rocked darker hair for years now. Earlier this summer, she appeared to go lighter with a highlighted look. She posted this on her Instagram in May, featuring a new haircut and color by Meneses.
However, it’s worth pointing out that Luddington's hair makeover might have taken place after filming for Grey’s Anatomy Season 18. Only time will tell as to whether she would definitely appear on our screens as a blonde or if the writers would choose to keep her signature hair color for now.
Reactions
This new hairdo attracted many positive responses from her followers. Her “Grey's Anatomy” co-stars also chimed in with words of support for her fresh hairdo. A fan wrote, “New season, new hair. We are READY."
Another commented, “Cami finally got her Blonde Jo wish."
Meanwhile, a third excited fan commented, “BLONDE JO ERA THIS IS NOT A DRILL I REPEAT JO BLONDE ERA," as a fourth added, “I’M IN LOVE WITH THE BLONDE."
Sarah Drew, who is a co-star on the series, expressed surprise and added a fire emoji. Jake Borelli, who played Dr. Levi Schmitt on the show, also wrote, "The TEA!"
Jeanine Mason, who previously starred on Grey's Anatomy as Dr. Sam Bello, added, "BABE!"
A fan went as far as to compare the new look to another famous “Grey’s Anatomy” character from days gone by. The protagonist's sister, Lexie, was also briefly blonde during the show’s sixth season. “Lexie Grey vibe,” the user wrote.
Before her time on Grey’s –and while she was still very much a brunette, fans might remember that the British actress actually played Kate Middleton in the 2011 movie "William & Kate," which dramatized the story of the couple’s relationship until the royal wedding.
Luddington As A Mom
As she amped up for a new season of her long-running series, the “GA” actress also settled into life as a mom of two. Luddington and her husband, Matthew Alan, welcomed their second child, son Lucas Matthew, in August 2020. The actress shared the news to her fans via Instagram. The picture featured herself and her new baby in the hospital.
"After what felt like a year long third trimester, it finally happened! Matt and I are SOOO happy to announce the birth of our sweet baby BOY Lucas, otherwise known as my little lion," the actress shared and added a lion emoji.
The couple's new addition joins 3-year-old big sister Hayden, whose birth was announced in April 2017. The new mom of two told People that "it feels amazing" to welcome their second child home.

Luddington also shared that Lucas "was the only boys' name my husband and I ever really liked," and had in fact "topped our boys' name list back when I was pregnant with Hayden."
The actress also disclosed that Hayden was excited to have a baby brother. "She would tickle my belly when I was pregnant and think she was tickling the baby. When he arrived, she was so giddy. She couldn't stop kissing his head and saying how cute he was."
Luddington And The Pandemic Birth
In a March appearance on "The Kelly Clarkson" Show, Luddington said she felt "a bond" with other mothers who also went through labor while wearing a mask during the pandemic.
"It's a different experience. I had to labor in a mask, which was, like, the biggest thing. So it was over 15 hours wearing a mask," she said.
For other moms who had a similar fear, Luddington assured that she "honestly forgot" that she had the mask on during most of the experience. "I was in labor for 15-plus hours and so much else was happening that my mind was elsewhere," the actress said.

"I didn't feel like ripping it off but I was thankful they allowed us to remove them for a short time to capture some after-birth pictures without the masks on."
What's Next For Wilson In Season 18?
Recently, the show's executive producer Meg Marinis recently revealed what to expect for Wilson in season 18. However, it seemed like the character will start the season in complete “mayhem."
In September, Marinis told TVLine, “She’s in mayhem! She’s like any new working mom — she’s trying to figure it out. She doesn’t want to step back from her career, but she loves this baby. So she’s going to have to figure out a way to make it all work. We’re definitely going to explore kind of the madness of what it looks like to be a single, working mom. There will be comedy and heartache in this situation," Marinis concluded.
