'Flip Or Flop' Star Tarek El Moussa Diagnosed With Autoimmune Disease

Tarek El Moussa has been diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder, celiac disease, following his battle with cancer.

The 'Flip Or Flop' star addressed the unfortunate situation on his new reality show 'Flipping 101' allowing cameras to capture his meeting with an internal medicine doctor and the moment where he receives the bad news. Tarek's fiancee -- Heather Rae Young -- was by his side as they discussed the diagnosis.

The 'Selling Sunset' star took to Instagram sharing a clip from tonight's episode and explaining the disease."

"Tonight’s new episode of Flipping 101 is a really important one, and not just cause you to get to learn from the mistakes of the novice renovators but also because you’ll get to learn about Tarek’s diagnosis with celiac disease. Celiac disease was something Tarek had never even heard of (classic him ) and it’s something that a lot of you might not know about," Heather begins.

She continues, "We knew something was making him extra inflamed and I was extra worried because like a lot of you might know, Tarek has had two types of cancers in the past and I wanted to be one step ahead of anything because obviously, I want him to live forever and be as healthy as possible so we started running a bunch of blood tests on him and finally our amazing doctor was able to diagnose him."

In a teaser from tonight's episode, Tarek admits he has "No idea what that is," and the doctor describes the situation in layman's terms, saying, "You have a gluten allergy."

El Moussa jokes after hearing the diagnosis saying he now has to choose between his "favorite foods" or "living a better and healthier and longer."

"Gluten is in everything," Tarek tells Young. Adding, "What am I gonna eat?"

He continued, “I wasn’t really expecting that news, and it’s just gonna be a really big change for me. But the good news is I know what’s wrong, and hopefully things will get better.”

As you know, several years ago Tarek was diagnosed with cancer and is celebrating several years of the disease in remission.

The 'Selling Sunset' star included a bit more information about how the couple is adjusting to the situation, saying, "Hi all, thank you so much for the comments and the support. We have been doing a lot of gluten-free plant-based meals at our home. Everyone is adjusting and we are getting used to the changes and Tarek is loving a lot of the gluten-free food."

As we reported, this isn't the only ailment the famous couple is dealing with at the moment. Tarek was recently tested positive for COVID-19 and it caused the shutdown of two reality shows. To be safe, Heather's show is also taking a few days off of filming to be safe.

At this point, Tarek is not feeling any symptoms of the virus and is fully vaccinated. The reality star is currently under quarantine and will continue shooting once he receives a negative test.
