On September 22, Shane Dawson appeared in an episode of Ryland Adams’ "The Sip" podcast and spoke about how his mental health has been lately.

He also revealed the impact the controversies had on his loved ones and other people around him.

“This is such a dark place to go but over the last couple years I feel like—and I’ve really tried to work through it—but it is hard not to feel like I’ve ruined everybody’s lives around me because of my mistakes in the past, and that was definitely a feeling for a while. And it’s like, I don’t know, I just felt like, you kind of got thrown through the mud," he confessed.

Adams shook his head in disagreement, and Dawson added, "I just felt like you got thrown through the mud. I just want to say I'm so proud of you guys," the vlogger concluded.

The responses in the comment section of the video were largely positive, as many people praised Dawson for openly speaking about his mental health.

Dawson is a YouTuber with over 20 million subscribers on the app. He’s been making and uploading videos since 2008. In recent years, he had huge hits on his various docu-series with well-known creators such as Jeffree Star and Tana Mongeau.

Backstory

In June 2020, YouTube suspended monetization on all three of Dawson’s YouTube channels regarding his past "racial comedy."

The vlogger seemed to light the match that sparked his own destruction on the site when he posted a lengthy statement about the YouTube beauty community who slammed "dramatic gurus."

He also said James Charles "needed to be served a slice of humble pie" when he lost three million subscribers last year. This enraged people within the community and led to commenters dredging up Dawson's past inappropriate and offensive content.

A month later, Dawson apologized for the content which included blackface, racism, and gags about pedophilia. His association with other YouTubers like Jeffree Star, and his involvement in YouTube dramas with James Charles and Trisha Paytas, also incited the crumble of his channel. Since the suspension, he has remained virtually silent and hasn't uploaded anything on his channel.

It was initially thought that Dawson might quit YouTube for good as a result of the controversies. However, in recent months, he made more appearances on Instagram to update fans, hinting at an eventual return.

Is 'The King Of YouTube' Coming Back?

On March 24, 2021, Dawson posted on the Community tab of his second YouTube channel Shane Glossin', which he made in 2019 to practice his makeup skills.

He wrote; "Sorry I haven’t been online in a while. Just taking time for my mental health. But I’ve been getting creative and editing again! It’s been really fun. Check out Ryland's new video that I edited. I'm really proud of it."

This raised one question in fans' minds; could this mean Dawson was about to make a dramatic return to the platform? Notably, this wasn't the first time Dawson hinted at a possible return. In October 2020, the vlogger revealed that he had "so much he wanted to say" and promised he would be back on social media to spill the tea very soon.

Obviously, the update was in its early days and it didn't pinpoint a specific week or even month. Dawson could, moreover, still be away from the spotlight for a very long time.

When asked about his YouTube comeback on the podcast, he replied that he was certainly still going to return.

"I'm just waiting for inspiration to hit. I wanna make stuff again. Like, I love editing, I love coming up with ideas, I love all the aspects of YouTube. But I'm also in a weird place where I've learned so much, I feel like I've changed so much. I feel like I'm a little bit older and I'm not invested in pop culture. I don't know anything about TikTok. It would be fake for me to be like, 'Here's my new series!'"

Who Is Shane Dawson?

He's an American actor and musician who got his acclaimed fame through the video sharing platform, YouTube. He was born on July 19, 1988 in Long Beach, California. He grew up there and graduated from Lakewood High School.

He has two siblings; Jacob Yaw, who was born in 1980 and Jerid Yaw, who was born in 1985. The siblings share a close relationship, and this has helped Dawson through trying times.

At age 19, Dawson began making videos on YouTube and garnered over half a billion views by 2010. Most of his early work consisted of sketch comedy videos, where he played original characters, impersonated celebrities and made light of popular culture. Some of these impressions eventually drew criticism for their offensive content, including racial stereotypes.

Dawson And Ryland Adams’ Relationship

The couple has been dating since 2016 and three years later, Dawson went on bended knees to propose to him. It was extra special because the proposal coincided with their anniversary.

The duo actually met on a dating app, with Dawson extending the first message. It read, "Ryland! Hey man," and the rest, they say, was history. They've taken vacations together and have also attended events together.
