The Beatles: Ringo Starr Reveals He's Regularly In Touch With Paul McCartney

It was Yoko who broke up The Beatles, but it’s FaceTime that’s bringing them back together. At least that’s what Ringo Starr says. The former Beatle does not look at all like the typical 81-year-old man. He’s still doing shows and making appearances like the one that he made last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Ringo talked about the state of his relationship with the only other remaining living Beatle Paul McCartney as well as why he believes the group’s music is still relevant even so many years later.

When asked about whether he keeps up with McCartney there was no hesitation in Ringo’s answer. He acknowledged that he and Paul would FaceTime regularly. Something that he had already spoken about in previous interviews. He also said that they meet up in person when they can.

As to when they can be seen back on stage together the answer is potentially 2022. McCartney was set to go on tour in 2020. That got canned for obvious reasons. He’s since not been overly clear about his future in live shows. Ringo Starr and his All-Star Band though are set to be back in 2022. It’s possible Sir Paul will join them in a stop or two.

One of the stories that Ringo shared with Jimmy Kimmel reveals that the rift between John Lennon, Yoko, and the rest of the Beatles is alive and well still to this day. Even though John and George Harrison are both long gone. Ringo revealed that he was recently in London. He went out to dinner with McCartney and their significant others. George Harrison’s widow joined them, but no Yoko! Kimmel asked whether The Beatles at dinner commanded a lot of paparazzi. According to Ringo a couple of masks is all it takes to become anonymous he told Kimmel,

"With the mask on, I can go anywhere,"

Do major stars also marble at their own success, or do they just become numb to it? It seems like the wise 81-year-old Ringo is still amazed that newer generations get hooked on The Beatles’ music. He seems to believe that it’s a testament to the good music that the band was able to make in their prime. He’s also still a fan of his own work. Saying,

“Every generation get[s] into the music, I love the music myself and I am amazed that every generation gets into us,"

Kimmel started the conversation about each generation getting into songs from The Beatles because he’s experienced this firsthand himself. Jimmy told Ringo that he was super excited to have him on his show. You could tell from his face that even he was a little star-struck. He then went on to tell Ringo that his 7-yeard-old daughter happens to be a massive Beatles fan. Kimmel mentioned,

“She wakes up, her alarm is set for The Beatles every morning, and it plays. That's how she wakes up each day, and what an amazing thing that is."
